The Immediate Results of Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty

Abstract
Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty(PTCA) was performed in 16 patients. There were 13 men and 3 women with a mean age of 54.6¡¾8.2 years (range 41 to 69). Chest pain was a mean of 11¡¾21 months in duration. The clinical diagnosis of
unstable
angina was in 10 patients (62.5%), stable angina in 5 patients (31.3%)and old myocardial infarction in 1 patient (6.2%). Angiographic findings of 1 vessel disease was in 8 patients (50%), 3 vessel disease in 3 patients(19%). Single vessel
angioplasty
was performed in 13 patients and multivessel angioplasty in 3 patients. Procedureal success was achieved in 16(84.2%) out of total 19 stenotic lesions. According to angiographic morphology of lesions, procedural success of type A lesion was 8/8
(100%),
type B lesion 8/10(80%). Three procedural failures included inability to pass the guide wire cross the lesion in 1 procedure, inability to pass the guide wire cross the lesion in 1 procedure, inability to pass the balloon cather in 1 procedure
and
inability to dilate the lesion in 1 procedure. Complication included deep vein thrombosis in 1patient but no other severe event. Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty may have good results and be performed as a safe and effective
therapeutic
mordality in selected patients.
